The year 2020 marks the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security, a groundbreaking resolution chaired by women leaders.
This was the first resolution that recognized the leadership role of women in achieving international peace and security and their contributions to conflict prevention, peacekeeping, conflict resolution and peace building.
Implementing the priorities of women, peace and security is a non-negotiable political commitment of the United Nations Secretary-General within his work for peacekeeping (A4P), which reaffirms that the full, meaningful and equal participation of women in peace processes and political solutions is essential to effective action in the field of peacekeeping. Women, Peace and Security during COVID-19
Women leaders are on the front lines of the COVID-19 response and help mitigate political risks associated with the pandemic. At the same time, the pandemic threatens recent gains in women's participation in peace and political processes, and has already exposed women and girls to greater risks in terms of poverty and violence, including the already recorded rise in cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
We are at a crossroads: either we lose our hard-won gains in women's rights and sustainable peace, or we achieve greater equality and resilience on the path to lasting and comprehensive peace. Ensuring the equal and meaningful participation of women in all areas of peace and security is vital to respond to this crisis and create a better and more sustainable world.
The Department of Peace Operations remains committed to implementing mandates related to women, peace and security, in particular the full and meaningful participation of women in decision-making, and has adjusted priorities to respond to the immediate COVID-19 crisis through a combination of policy measures and prevention and mitigation measures.
Peacekeepers are on the front lines in this battle and are an integral part of implementing the Mission's mandates, even under the current restrictions, and with all precautionary measures taken.
Peacekeeping operations continue to benefit greatly from their existing partnerships with national authorities, women's organizations, leaders and networks. This includes supporting the Secretary-General's call for a global ceasefire and finding creative ways to accelerate the meaningful participation of women in political processes, such as elections, by supporting formal mechanisms for implementing peace agreements and shaping local governance and protection structures in various contexts.
Call on the UN Secretary-General to act on women, peace and security in peacekeeping contexts
Discussion at a virtual roundtable on women, peace and security in peacekeeping contexts on 8 October 2020, Secretary-General António Guterres extended a call to mobilize efforts for peacekeeping partners to summon political will and recommit to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The event took place in the context of the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of this important Security Council Resolution 1325, which recognizes the role of women as a key factor in peace. In the presence of four leaders from Mali, the Central African Republic, Darfur and Cyprus, the Secretary-General listened to what was being discussed on the progress made and remaining challenges in implementing this priority agenda in a number of key areas: from women's participation in peace processes and conflict resolution, to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. 19 Women must ensure that women vote as voters and candidates in the elections

يصادف عام 2020 الذكرى العشرين لاعتماد قرار مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة رقم 1325 لعام (2000) بشأن المرأة والسلام والأمن، وهو قرارٌ رائد ترأسته القيادات النسائية.
كان ذلك القرار الأول الذي يعترف بدور المرأة القيادي في تحقيق السلام والأمن الدوليين وإسهاماتها في منع النزاعات وحفظ السلام وحل النزاعات وبناء السلام .
إن تنفيذ أولويات المرأة والسلام والأمن هو التزامٌ سياسي غير قابل للتفاوض لدى الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة ضمن عمله من أجل حفظ السلام (A4P)، الذي يعيد التأكيد على أن مشاركة المرأة الكاملة والهادفة والمتساوية مع الرجل في عمليات السلام والحلول السياسية ضروريةٌ للعمل الفعال في مجال حفظ السلام والوصول إلى نتائج سلام مستدامة.
المرأة والسلام والأمن خلال كوفيد-19
تعمل القيادات النسائية على الخطوط الأمامية للاستجابة لكوفيد-19 وتساعد في التخفيف من المخاطر السياسية المرتبطة بالجائحة. وفي الوقت ذاته، تهدد الجائحة المكاسب التي تحققت مؤخراً على صعيد مشاركة المرأة في عمليات السلام والعمليات السياسية، وقد عرّضت بالفعل النساء والفتيات لمخاطر أكبر فيما يخص الفقر والعنف، بما في ذلك الارتفاع المسجل بالفعل في حالات العنف الجنسي والجنساني.

تواصل عمليات حفظ السلام الاستفادة بشكلٍ كبير من شراكاتها الحالية مع السلطات الوطنية والمنظمات النسائية والقادة والشبكات. ويتضمن ذلك دعم دعوة الأمين العام لوقف إطلاق النار على الصعيد العالمي وإيجاد طرق إبداعية لتسريع المشاركة الهادفة للمرأة في العمليات السياسية، كالانتخابات، من خلال دعم الآليات الرسمية لتنفيذ اتفاقيات السلام وتشكيل الحكم المحلي وهياكل الحماية في سياقات مختلفة.
