قضية تشيلي وبوليفيا
ومحكمة العدل الدولية هي الجهاز القضائي الرئيسي للأمم المتحدة. وتتولى المحكمة الفصل طبقا لأحكام القانون الدولي في النزاعات القانونية التي تنشأ بين الدول، وتقديم آراء استشارية بشأن المسائل القانونية التي قد تحيلها إليها أجهزة الأمم المتحدة ووكالاتها المتخصصة.
وردا على سؤال حول قرار المحكمة في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2018 بشأن القضية بين تشيلي وبوليفيا، قال رئيس المحكمة، "نعتقد أن بوليفيا بذلت قصارى جهدها لتقديم حجتها كما هو موضح. وقد قدمت حجة ممتازة. لكن القانون هو ما هو عليه، وقضت المحكمة بالطبع أن تشيلي لم تتحمل أي التزام من خلال المراسلات، من خلال البيانات، التي قدمتها بوليفيا أمام المحكمة، للسماح بدخول بوليفيا إلى المحيط الهادئ".
هناك حاليا 15 قضية معلقة أمام المحكمة. خلال شهر أيلول/سبتمبر، عقدت المحكمة جلستين عبر التداول الهاتفي.

"The Coronavirus has disrupted the old tradition of in-person meetings and in-person hearings. But the court was able to respond quickly to continue performing its functions under the UN Charter. We have done this by applying relevant technology to hold meetings and remote hearings," said Mr. Youssef.
The Chile and Bolivia Case
The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. The court shall adjudicate in accordance with the provisions of international law in legal disputes that arise between states, and provide advisory opinions on legal issues that may be referred to it by the United Nations bodies and its specialized agencies.
In response to a question about the October 2018 court ruling on the case between Chile and Bolivia, the President of the Court said, “We believe that Bolivia has done its best to present its argument as shown. It has presented an excellent argument. But the law is what it is, and the court ruled, of course. That Chile has not assumed any obligation, through correspondence, through statements, which Bolivia submitted to the court, to allow Bolivia to enter the Pacific Ocean. "
There are currently 15 cases pending before the court. During the month of September, the court held two hearings by telephone.
